youtu.be/v=n-4dwarsR6wlonghaulfoldingkayaks.comThis 17'-5" expedition-grade sailing kayak was the owner of Long Haul Kayak's personal vessel as seen in the YouTube video above, featuring he and his daughter sailing this exact boat. It's top-of-the-line, with all available features and then some. Mark Eckhart was a Klepper rep for many years then launched Long Haul, replicating and improving the Klepper designs; Long Haul is the best available folding kayak.
It's paired with a full sailing rig from Balogh Sail Designs featuring a schooner rig, with pre-tensioned battens, inflatable outrigger "amas", mahogany dagger board and all standing and running rigging.
baloghsaildesigns.comThe "stretch" model Quattro is similar to the Klepper Aerius but sturdier. It features four sponsons plus a sponson under the keel board to give the hull improved shape for sailing. Included are two hiking boards with sliding Thermarest cushions allowing two to sit above the gunwales when sailing; this also makes it possible for a child (or maybe 2) to sit in the cockpit so that it's really a 2.5 person vessel.
The kayak has been very lightly used & fastidiously cared for and is in exceptional condition - apart from a few scrapes to varnish and a couple of insignificant abrasions on the hull it's essentially in new condition. It's a very complete kit including Long Haul spray cover & skirts, comfort seats with Thermarest cushions, a pair of Werner Camano paddles ($300 each), NRS buoyancy bladders, Suunto compass, K Pump air pump for inflating sponsons & amas, and a custom steering rig allowing the boat to be steered from either the forward or aft seat, as well as with the aft seat rudder pedals. The boat is also rigged so it can be sailed by one person from the aft seat. The boat packs down into 3 heavy-duty Long Haul bags and the sail rig packs into 2 (or 3) BSD bags. It's a very capable sailboat that fits in a hatchback or trunk.
