Wandelaar was built in Holland in 1970. Her primary owner was editor of a Dutch sailing magazine VAREN. He sailed her all around Europe and wrote stories about his voyages. He sailed her from Spain to Barbados where a young couple purchased her for an around the world voyage. The male portion of the couple was a physicist with only one leg but wasnt handicapped! He would throw a sail bag over his shoulder and shoot up the boatyard ladder. This couple sailed around the Caribbean for a year and discovered it was time to sell the boat when they realized they were going to become parents. I purchased Wandelaar in 1984 and have sailed from Norfolk VA to New Bern NC, and then I brought her up offshore to Newport RI and eventually to my own mooring in Kittery Maine. My wife and I have made multiple passages along the New England Coast and a passage to Nova Scotia. . |
