Designed by Doug Peterson & built by Palmer Johnson, the NY 40 class was commissioned by the New York Yacht Club as a true racer/cruiser that could race to Bermuda or the Caribbean and keep her crew safe and comfortable. In 1977, a group within the club wished to get back to one-design racing. A Doug Peterson design was adopted for the new class to be known as the NY 40.
