Description: |
52ft rugged expedition motorsailer. Low maintenance. Exeptionally strong and practical expedition vessel built to withstand the very worst conditions, yet is simple and economical to run and maintain. Designed for long oceanic voyages and the live-aboard life style. More of an indestructible, rugged workboat than a delicate yacht. Built in the Bay of Fundy in 1978 there is $74,000 worth of polyester resin invested in the construction of her hull and deck alone. Built of thick solid fiberglass and welded aluminum, Samphire is hard to damage. 1” thick hull is tough enough to withstand severe impact and needs little maintenance other than paint. Samphire is unique in that she was built in early days of fiberglass boat building, before it became understood that boatbuilders could get away with much thinner hulls. Nowadays building a boat with a hull like this would be cost prohibitive. New John Deere 4045 4.5 litre turbo diesel burns under 2 gallons/ hour at 8 knots, installed last year. New teak interior installed in Guatemala 3 years ago. Currently active in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest as charter boat for SCUBA diving, research charters, film crews and kayak mothership adventures (see samphire.ca). Live-aboard accommodations for up to 6 people. The aft-cabin provides bunk style berths for 4, while the fore-cabin offers a spacious double bed and comfortable living quarters for a couple. Heavy weather ready: her hatches can be locked down watertight. Stable underway and at the anchor. Capacity to carry heavy equipment and kayaks the on foredeck. |
