This is a 1972 Pearson 26 hull # 418 and she’s a rock solid boat. This would be a great first keel boat or a great starter boat to learn to sail Lake Michigan. She’s cruised lake Michigan on both the Wisconsin and Michigan side and she’s ready to do it again. I’ve sailed her through some of the rougher stuff that Lake Michigan can whip up and she handled like a champ. As they say, the boat can take more that the crew can. She has a racing bottom and all the common P26 problems have been addressed – new rudder bushing, new keel bolts., etc. SAILS: • 170 Genoa • 150 Jib • 150 composite Jib • 110 working Jib • Storm Jib • Not old Main • Old Main Condition of all sails: Not new. But they'll make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. BOTTOM This was perhaps the largest project on this boat. Soda-blasted the whole bottom down to the bare fiberglass, ground out the keel-hull joint fixed all the blistering, refilled the joint with west systems epoxy, applied 3 coats of Interlux 2000e barrier coat. That season and every season since, I’ve applied 2 coats of anti-fouling Pettit SR-21. All through-hulls were replaced new. the speed/depth sensor was relocated to center-hull so speed is registered correctly whether on port or starboard tack.
HULL The boat came with a repainted white hull. I sanded the whole thing, fixed the few blisters & blemishes and painted it with Interlux Brightsides Flag Blue. Because a blue hulled boat is just better ;-) 2009
WIND INDICATOR This is just a necessity on any boat. So I added a windex 15 wind indicator on the masthead
ENGINE Electric start! 9.9 hp Johnson/Evinrude “Sailmaster” Longshaft 2stroke. Solid condition. Rebuilt in 2013, it starts easily every time with one push of the start button
ENGINE WELL DRAIN this boat originally had an engine well drain that had a 270 degree twisted tube. i've replaced that with a larger straight pipe. no more engine well drain clogs.
WINCHES - 2 speed Lewmar 16 2-speed primary winches repositioned in the cockpit to facilitate racing a bit better. |
