14 Whitehall Dory "Velocette" built by local legend Gordy Nash in Sausalito in 1983. Three different rowing positions (one central for solo rowing or fore/aft positions for two rowers). We have sailed and rowed San Francisco Bay, the Russian River estuary, Tomales Bay and more for the past 12 years and now its time to pass this beauty on to her next owners. I dont think Ive ever taken her out without getting comments on how beautiful this boat is.
The hull is fiberglass with mahogany and teak trim, patinated bronze and shiny stainless hardware. Velocette is a reproduction of the original Whitehall rowboats of 19th century New York harbor - designed to handle choppy waters while maintaining a fast, straight track. It is a joy to row. Gordy built this boat in the 1980s and he also helped me with some transom repair work when I did a restoration 3 years ago. Velocette is in mostly excellent condition with a few blemishes in the varnish here and there from use since the restoration.
New custom Sunbrella boat cover New Sunbrella sleeves for rudder, tiller and leeboard 5 year old Trailex aluminum road trailer (1 1/2 hitch) One pair spruce oars with leather cuffs and bronze oarlocks Spruce mast, gaff and a mainsail Rudder/tiller Leeboard Stored inside
The oars are unrestored - I have left them as-is in case the new owner wants to switch to sculling oars. Spars and sail are also unrestored and easy to upgrade if you want to sail. These are reflected in the price. New equivalent 14 Whitehall Dories are listed for over $30,000 - this one is well priced for a beauty of a boat with heritage.
This is a classic beauty that is also a high performing rowboat. The fiberglass hull keeps her light and easy to maintain while the teak and mahogany trim makes her radiate warmth. |
