She was built by Kells of Bristol RI in 1978, and was moved to a big freshwater lake that straddles the Vermont Canada border in 1982 where she spend her life until last year when I brought her to N Carolina.
While all boats need work, Dawn is not a "project boat". I sail her several days a week.
Sails are in fair to good cond and were restitched by St Onge in Quebec about 7 yrs or so ago. They have no rips, but are starting to get a little soft.
This year I replaced the main and jib halyards. Fuel tank was removed, cleaned inside and outside then repainted. There was ONE soft spot on the forward deck which I repaired, only requires finish faring and final paint.
I am selling her because a nice Alburg dropped into my lap.
Dawn is configured as a day sailor and has no head or galley installed at the moment.
I can include a NEW Dometic marine toilet and a Kenyon alcohol stove with full price offer. Quality bronze thu-hulls and waste tank is still in place.
A little bit of elbow grease would make this boat a nice coastal cruiser. |
Equipment: |
Keel stepped aluminum mast with floor plate in good condition.
4000lbs encapsulated lead ballast. (No worrying about keel bolts and attendant issues)
Pair of #40 Barrent self tailing main winches in good working order.
6 beautiful bronze ports (3 opening) with tempered glass.
Yanmar 12hp single cylinder diesel which has always been properly maintained. There is no hr meter, but I know this boats history from the second owner in 1982. The engine was only used to get in and out of the marina or mooring field. I'm sure it is under 2000hrs and likely much less than that.
Dual battery set up. House battery is a 2 yr old Interstate deep cycle RV, starting battery is a top end Die Hard that's 6 months old.
There is a knot meter and depth finder. I have never bothered to hook them up, but was told they were in working order.
Price is pretty firm as the lead keel, winches, and bronze ports would scrap for that, to say nothing of the mast, engine and assorted other equipment.
Much as I would love to have the ports for my Alburg, I'd rather see Dawn find a new home. She is pretty much a perfect first fixed keel boat for someone looking to move up from a centerboard or swing keel.
I own a cradle and trailer so delivery MIGHT be possible within two or three hundred miles. Price would depend on how much sweat the new owner would be willing to contribute.
